Finding businesses you want to work with and pitching them is a great way to control your business and your income.
But there’s another side to the equation, which can be a great way to complement your pitching game. There are a few places you can go to look for freelance job listings, beef up your experience, and get paid!
Look on general job sites.
The great thing about sites like indeed.com, linkup.com, and ziprecruiter.com is that you can set up an automatic search function specific to your skillset. These sites will send you an email whenever a relevant job match is posted on their platform.
You can also check out LinkedIn—just be sure to optimize your profile for best results.
One option is to specify “freelance job listings” in your search criteria. And at the same time, you can look through the full-time/on-staff opportunities. You might find a few companies that will consider hiring you as a freelancer, especially since they may have overflow work as they’re searching for the right candidate to fill the role.

This is just a short list of places to start looking. Where possible, set up alerts so they’ll send jobs to you!
Add jobs you like to your pitch list
Send a value-added pitch just as you would to other companies you’d pitch. Just because they have a job listing doesn’t mean you need to apply via the sites themselves.
In fact, we’d recommend you avoid things like the LinkedIn “Easy Apply” button at all costs.
Stand out from the crowd by crafting a value-added pitch focused on what you can do for the company.
But…avoid job biddings sites!
We’ve said it before, but it is worth repeating: freelance job bidding sites are bad news. Sites like Fiverr and Upwork are where clients go to pitch freelancers, not the other way around. This creates an environment where there’s a race to the bottom to provide the lowest price.
Of course, you can always add companies to your pitch list, but job listings are a great way to identify additional opportunities.
