A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[0:13] Nicki and Kate are answering a common question among prospective freelancers: can you freelance part-time?
[2:17] Nicki gives the helpful reminder that you can freelance part-time indefinitely! It’s a great way to save up extra money and spend more time doing what you love.
[3:00] A starting point for deciding what service to offer is to evaluate if you would want to freelance using your skill from your day job. If so, great! Your search for what to offer is over.
[5:39] One savvy tip for freelancing part-time is to work with companies in other time zones so that their business hours align with the hours you’re away from your full-time job. Kate mentions that this can help your stretch your time so there’s more room for meeting with clients.
[7:00] A common worry about part-time freelance is that a client may need a project done before you can submit it. Our hosts note that if you can’t meet a deadline just tell the client that; chances are they will reconsider their timeline or possibly reach out later and ask you to work on the project anyways.
[11:00] Kate notes that it’s rare a client will ask you to do a project last minute. This works in favor of part-time freelancers because it gives you the opportunity to build your schedule around the deadline.
[13:00] Another valuable tip for working freelance part-time is to use nights to your advantage: let clients know that you’re happy to carry out tasks after their business hours end. This is a great way to help your clients be more efficient in one business day.
[14:10] Whether or not you ever want to switch to full-time, freelancing part-time is a perfect option to get started without taking on a huge risk. Be sure to remember (or write down) the tips from this episode so you can use part-time freelance to your advantage.
