Without a doubt, YES. You may have heard—perhaps from relatives, friends, a significant other, or maybe even people who have tried freelancing and failed—that freelancing is “risky” … not a viable career … that it can’t be done, or any number of other not-so-positive opinions.
But “opinions” is the operative word here. Because, while well-meaning (hopefully!), the people sharing their two cents—and I say this lovingly—do not know what they’re talking about. They want the best for you, but simply are not informed on the topic and are unaware of the vast world of opportunities out there for freelancers. Or, they tried making a go of freelancing without knowing how to run a business or having effective systems in place to find clients, manage their time, etc. (aka a recipe for failure in any type of business).
So, here’s something that I live by and highly encourage you to live by as well: Only take advice from people who have been successful at what you want to do.
There are plenty of freelancers thriving and enjoying successful careers … and there’s absolutely zero reason why you can’t be one of them!
